Colliding Winds in the Stellar Core at the Galactic Center: Some Implications
نویسندگان
چکیده
We point out that a high number density of stars in the core of a dense star cluster such as the central stellar cluster at the Galactic center, where many stars possess strong stellar winds, should result in collisions of those winds. The wind collisions in the dense stellar core at the Galactic center would result in production of strong X-ray flares with the rate of ∼ 10 (Nw/10) yr and duration of ∼ 1 week, where Nw is the number of the wind producing stars in the core. Presence of a massive black hole would enhance the stellar density around it and would make collisions of the winds in the core substantially more frequent. Collisions of the stellar winds in the cluster have also a number of interesting observable implications, including generation of γ-rays by particles accelerated by the shocks from the colliding winds. These processes are also expected to be relevant to compact regions of intense star formation elsewhere.

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations
Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...
متن کاملDeep Chandra Observations of the Arches and Quintuplet Clusters at the Galactic Center
We present a deep Chandra ACIS-I observation of the Arches and Quintuplet clusters at the Galactic Center. We detect several bright point-like sources that are clearly associated with the clusters. Some of the sources are positionally coincident with known radio sources with strong stellar winds. The sources have similar X-ray spectra, which are dominantly thermal and show an unusually strong 6...
متن کاملDetection of X-Ray Emission from the Arches Cluster near the Galactic Center
The Arches cluster is an extraordinarily compact massive star cluster with a core radius of about 1000 ( 0.4 pc) and consisting of more than 150 O star candidates with initial stellar masses greater than 20 M near G0.12-0.02. X-ray observations of the radio Arc near the Galactic center at l 0=2, which contains the Arches cluster, have been carried out with the Advanced CCD Imaging Spectrometer ...
متن کاملTheoretical considerations on colliding clumped winds
First attempts are made to derive astrophysical implications of the collision of clumped stellar winds from order of magnitude estimates and preliminary numerical simulations. Compared to colliding smooth winds, we find that the most significant differences occur in widely separated systems like WR 140. Clumped winds de-stabilize the wind-wind interaction zone of such systems. Highly compressed...
متن کاملAn X - ray Binary Model for the Galactic Center Source IRS 13
We present several models for IRS 13E, an in-frared, mm and X-ray source in the Galactic Center. Our favored interpretation is that of an early-type binary with strong colliding winds emission. This naturally explains the observed X-ray count rate and the strong IR emission lines, and has a distinct advantage over competing hypotheses based upon a single star or BH system.
